Every system is perfectly designed to get the results it gets.
Deming said this about processes, but it applies directly to performance. If your system is producing an outcome you don’t want, the first question isn’t what’s wrong with the person producing it — it’s what in the system is making that outcome possible. Reframing the question changes everything about what you do next.
Take Action: Choose one recurring performance issue. Ask yourself: what in the setup of this role makes this problem easy to produce? Write one sentence answering that question before your next shift.
