What gets measured gets prioritized.
Without explicit decision criteria, subjective preferences and recency bias dictate outcomes. When criteria remain unspoken, they can't be properly weighted or evaluated. Defining and weighting your criteria creates transparency, enables objective comparison, and prevents shifting goalposts during implementation.
Take Action: Before evaluating your next decision options, document 4-6 specific criteria with relative importance weights. Include at least one metric from each category: operational, financial, people, and strategic.
